Treatment for Farmapram Addiction

In the United States, alprazolam is the generic name for Xanax, a branded benzodiazepine used primarily for managing anxiety and panic disorders. In Mexico, the drug is commonly known by the brand name Farmapram and may be produced there, both legally and clandestinely.

DEA categorizes alprazolam as a Schedule IV controlled substance [1]. Like other drugs in this class, alprazolam carries a risk of abuse, addiction, physical dependence, and withdrawal symptoms.

What is Farmapram?

Farmapram drug is a branded formulation of alprazolam available in Mexico. Alprazolam is a prescription medication under the benzodiazepine class used to treat mental health disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. It works by enhancing the effects of a specific natural chemical in the body – GABA – which helps to calm the central nervous system.

What is Mexican Xanax?

Mexican Xanax is simply the nickname for the drug alprazolam, which is America’s generic version of Xanax. Xanax, Mexican Xanax pills, and Farmapram are all benzodiazepines commonly prescribed to treat anxiety disorders and depression. They all share the active ingredient, alprazolam, which works by depressing the CNS, leading to calming effects on the neurotransmitters, and helping an individual relax.

Are There Differences Between Xanax and Farmapram?

Xanax and Farmapram both have the drug Alprazolam as their active component. Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders. While Farmapram and Xanax share similar ingredients and uses, their regulations can vary between countries.

In America, Alprazolam (Xanax) is only legal by medical prescription for the treatment of anxiety disorders and panic disorders with or without agoraphobia [2]. Xanax also has a few off-label uses, but even these are limited and controlled. Alprazolam is a controlled substance in the US, and it is illegal to buy and sell this drug or consume it without a prescription.

However, Mexico does not have as stringent regulations on Alprazolam (locally referred to as Mexican Xanax or Farmapram) compared to the US. While Alprazolam is classified as a controlled substance in Mexico, obtaining a prescription or accessing the drug without one is relatively easy, provided the bottle contains no more than 50 pills.

Dangers of Farmapram

While used to treat and alleviate anxiety, Farmapram pills can paradoxically heighten anxiety when used inappropriately or over extended periods. Discontinuation after dependency can trigger rebound anxiety [4], which may persist for up to two years.

Depression is another adverse effect of chronic Farmapram misuse, often intensified during withdrawal. People may experience feelings of despair.

Prolonged Farmapram abuse may also induce psychosis, characterized by hallucinations and paranoia.

Memory impairment is a known consequence of sustained Farmapram Xanax use.

Addiction, dependence, and Farmapram abuse can develop swiftly, even under prescribed use.

Many drugs sold under illicit methods may be contaminated with filler drugs. The latest DEA report showed that 5 out of 10 pills tested in 2024 contain a potentially deadly dose of fentanyl.

Fentanyl overdose symptoms include shallow breathing, cool skin, constricted pupils, and unconsciousness.
