BlueCross BlueShield Insurance Coverage

Of the tens of millions of Americans who struggle with addiction every day, it is a sad fact that the vast majority will not get the help they need. There are many reasons that this is the case. In some instances, they are not convinced that they need treatment. In others, they do not feel that they can take time away from the responsibilities of work and family to get treatment. What is the Affordable Care Act (ACA)?

A very well liked way of paying for drug and alcohol rehab is known as the Patient Protection or more commonly known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA is a health care system law passed in 2010 that aids in covering addiction treatment. If you are addicted to substances and/or is suffering alcholism, the ACA may be a viable way to pay for it.

Due to the ACA, substance abuse and addictions are no longer considered a pre-existing condition per insurance purpose.

The ACA levies insurance plans for sale on an online platform known as the Health Insurance Marketplace. The medical insurance plans showcase a wide of array of addiction treatment coverage alike to private insurance plans.

The ACA also increases funds and treatment options shown to Americans covered by Medicare and Medicaid. The prices and prerequisites for Medicare and Medicaid coverage are much different from Marketplace medical insurance plans.

How much Affordable Health Care Medical Insurance Covers

Due to the ACA, coverage for addiction treatment must be as completed the same as it is for any other medical procedure. Some of the treatments you can acquire with these insurance plans include:

  • Addiction evaluation
  • Brief intervention
  • Addiction treatment medication
  • Clinic visits
  • Alcohol and drug testing
  • Home health visits
  • Family counseling
  • Anti-craving medication

ACA health insurance plans also assist with inpatient services like medical detox programs.

Some states run their own Health Insurance Marketplace platforms separate from Healthcare.gov. Differences between state and federal medical plans are based on Medicare and Medicaid coverage in each state.

Amount of Addiction Costs Covered by Obamacare

Anyone who is looking for ACA medical plans can purchase them. The several types of Health Insurance Marketplace plans up for grabsinclude:

  • Bronze plans – 60 percent covered
  • Silver plans – 70 percent covered
  • Gold plans – 80 percent covered
  • Platinum plans – 90 percent covered
  • Catastrophic — 60 percent covered

*Plans only viable to those under 30 years old or those with extenuating circumstances

How Does the Affordable Care Act Broaden Treatment?

The ACA reduces addiction treatment costs, increases treatment options and extends many benefits of employer-provided insurance plans to individual medical insurance plans. The ACA also allows young adults 26 and younger to remain on their parents’ health care plan.

These expanded benefits include addiction treatment despite “pre-existing health conditions.” ACA funding opens hundreds of new inpatient and outpatient health centers every year to support this increased care. Many of these new centers also cover treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions like depression.

Who Accepts Affordable Care Act Plans?

Many addiction treatment centers will take Health Insurance Marketplace plans.

If you haven’t already gotten a ACA-sponsored plan, you can apply for one online during an open registration period. You can locate the registration schedule or request a special registration form at Healthcare.gov if you didn’t get into the normal registration window.

A client can select one of these medical insurance plans by doing the following steps below:

  • Log on to the Website
Go the Health Insurance Marketplace at Healthcare.gov to start the registration.
  • Make an Account
Make a Health Insurance Marketplace online account.
  • Filling out Your Application
Complete the Marketplace application and check for available health plans.

Once you are approved for an ACA-sponsored plan, call a Health Insurance Marketplace representative to determine which health insurance package is the right choice for you. Consider whether you want to enter an inpatient or outpatient program. This is one of the many factors to consider when purchasing an ACA coverage plan.

What The Affordable Care Act Doesn’t Help With

The Affordable Care Act significantly improves the substance abuse landscape by providing addicts with increased access to addiction treatment programs. Unfortunately, the Act doesn’t ensure high-quality coverage and treatment for those struggling with substance abuse disorders.

Studies shows that almost 90% of people who enter addiction treatment programs in the United States aren’t receiving evidence-based treatment, the type of therapy that’s proven to be the most effective for anyone.

Instead, they accept “treatments” rooted in the idea that addicts are not people looking to heal but broken people that are powerless under the whim of addiction.

Many treatment programs reject scientific evidence, which is abhorrent and ineffective in treatment.

The quality of care and treatment is vital in successful recovery. Scientists have identified optimal practices for treating addiction – a combination of behavioral, medicated and psychological therapeutic modalities.

Many experts counter with the argument that insurance plans should only cover treatment that offer these services. It’s mostly to help addicts avoid receiving inadequate or no care or treatment at all for their disease.

Despite the uptick in addictions, the Affordable Care Act and its associated regulations are making a monumental difference, especially among people and groups disproportionately affected by substance abuse.

While Obamacare does not specifically identify a limit on the number of treatment days or sessions, there is a clear lean towards individuals trying out outpatient rehab prior to inpatient care. This course is most recommended. As noted by Health Affairs, the Affordable Care Act prefers outpatient treatment that is intertwined with many health disciplines. It gives into the idea that health insurance companies want individuals to try more affordable outpatient options prior to enrolling in inpatient care, which is generally more pricey.

Additionally, the ACA ensures rehabilitation treatment, not necessarily the closeness of the treatment to the policyholder’s living quarters or the depth of that treatment. Occasionally, you may need to fly or drive out farther for care based on your insurance coverage. Alternatively, you could wait for an appointment at a covered facility nearby you.

Will BlueCross BlueShield Rehab Insurance Coverage Pay for Your Treatment?

Paying for addiction treatment, however, does not need to be all that difficult. BlueCross BlueShield rehab insurance coverage is one of the most sought after providers for individuals and families across the U.S., and this is especially true when it comes to rehab. The programs available vary depending upon the policy, but a wide range of treatment options are covered.

This is in part because of state and federal legislation that has been passed over the course of the last few years that states essentially that addiction must be classified as a chronic disease. In other words, insurance providers must cover it just as they would cover any other chronic illness. There are, of course, still co-pays and related expenses, depending upon your coverage, but BlueCross BlueShield may cover a good deal of your treatment.

At Renaissance Recovery, we work closely with BlueCross BlueShield to help ensure that you get the addiction recovery support you need with the least out-of-pocket cost to you. During the Renaissance admissions process, our experienced intake team will walk you through every step of the BlueCross BlueShield insurance verification process. This will allow you to see what is and is not covered by your plan. It is important to note that you may be eligible for individualize BlueCross BlueShield rehab insurance coverage if you are struggling with an opioid use disorder.
