Need help getting addiction treatment?

If you’re going through or about to go through addiction recovery, you’ll want to start by doing research on your options in regard to addiction treatment in California. For starters, where will you go? There are some things you should know before you narrow your search. Probably the best piece of advice is that you should be looking for a distraction-free setting. In most cases, this means leaving your hometown and if you can swing it, you should go to another state. As the 12-step program mentions, changing the “people, places and things” is critical to your success.

How To Pick A Drug Rehab Center

Choosing a drug rehab center in California does not have to be hard its best to think about how you want to recover and find a treatment center that best suits your needs. When choosing A rehab center make sure it covers four important aspects:
  1. Is it in the Location I want ?
  2. Do they have enough treatment options to cater to my individual needs?
  3. Do they have experience treating my exact substance abuse or mental health disorder?

There are many different addiction treatment centers to choose from in California but you’ll find our programs at Renaissance Recovery offer treatment in Orange county, Greater Los Angeles, Huntington Beach, and Southern California. We offer a plethora of different treatments and therapies and cater to your individual needs with various evidence based therapies to ensure the root cause of your addiction is properly treated. Our countless years of addiction and mental health treatment allow us to effectively treat all different kinds of substance abuse and mental health conditions while providing luxury amenities and a personal touch.

Addiction Treatment Begins With Rehab (aka Detox)

Although the two terms are interchangeable, the word “Rehab” is often incorrectly associated with the entire recovery process. That’s not the case. All addiction treatment centers in California, as in the case everywhere, begin with detox. Purging the substances from your body is the first order of business. This process can take up to four weeks to several months. While you’ll be substance free in 7-10 days, the process of healing begins by finding your level – a process whereby you start to see and experience sobriety. Also during this time, you’ll begin counseling for whatever led you to addiction and in some cases, you’ll work on a treatment plan for co-occurring disorders. Your addiction treatment professionals will help you lay the groundwork for continuing treatment. Why continuing treatment? Because of the fact that no one can reasonably be expected to have the capacity to go through life substance free without continuing treatment. The may include Intensive Outpatient treatment (IOP) or Partial Hospitalization treatment (PHP). It will likely then continue with a sober living home/sober living house. In a sober living home, you’ll begin to prepare yourself for reintegration into society. This will include many things such as finishing your education, job training, attending to any outstanding legal issues, or just learning how to live on your own. Your treatment professionals will assess you and make recommendations. You would be well advised to do so.

The RoadMap is Well Established

Your addiction treatment plan depends upon your cooperation and understanding that it cannot and will not happen overnight. However, don’t think that you don’t have any choice in the matter. You can choose where you go for treatment. You’ve surely noticed that there are many addiction treatment centers in California – and for good cause. California is a state that strongly supports addiction recovery. But not all addiction treatment centers in California are alike. Some are faith-based, some are not. Some are built around the 12-step program, some are holistic in their approach. It’s no secret that there are some very lavish Rehab and addiction recovery centers in California. As you can imagine, celebrities are drawn to these places. Some of them charge upwards of $20,000 a month. That’s great if you can afford it, but studies show they’re no more successful at treating addiction than other facilities.

How California Manages Its Addiction Treatment Programs

‍ Part of finding appropriate addiction treatment involves expanding the types of programs available because everyone has unique needs for treatment. For example, about 3.4 percent of California’s residents report having any mental illness (AMI) occurring alongside addiction, which is called co-occurring disorders; and 1.1 percent of the state’s large population reported that they had a serious mental illness (SMI) occurring with a substance abuse disorder. People with co-occurring disorders need addiction treatment that can help them change their behaviors around substances while understanding the symptoms of their mental illness. Treatment should help them learn to manage both conditions at the same time. As of 2015, 48.5 percent of California’s treatment programs offered specific programs for co-occurring disorders treatment. Steps that California’s state-funded programs are taking include the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Expansion Project, which aims to help 20,000 people struggling with opioid addiction. The goal is to prevent opioid overdoses and deaths by offering greater access to MAT to manage opioid detox, primarily through greater access to buprenorphine tapering. The program is entering Version 2.0 soon, adding three more medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to help people struggling with addiction to narcotics. Unfortunately, California’s rates of alcohol or drug addiction treatment involving commercial health care plans were slightly lower than the national average in 2016. The National Committee for Quality Assurance Standards (CNQA) defines good addiction treatment as: • At least one initial treatment visit within two weeks of being diagnosed with a substance use disorder (the initial phase). • Two follow-up visits within a month of initial treatment (the ongoing phase). Only one in three Californians met the initial phase criteria (34 percent nationally met these criteria), and 1 in 10 Californians was in the ongoing phase (compared to 12 percent nationally). Over 85 percent of California’s adults who got addiction treatment received help through an outpatient program; 12.8 percent got help through a residential, or non-hospital-based, program; and 1.8 percent were hospitalized for their addiction treatment. One in three adults received MAT to manage their withdrawal symptoms. In 2015, there were 1,004 outpatient treatment facilities in California, 23 percent of which offered MAT; 521 non-hospital residential programs were available, none of which offered MAT; and there were 30 hospital inpatient programs. Since 2013, there has been a slow decline in the number of available treatment programs, but an increase in the percentage of outpatient programs offering MAT.

Talk To An Expert – And Look at Your Insurance Coverage

Just like anything else, it’s important to talk to an expert. While many private health insurance companies cover addiction treatment, there are often limits to how much they’ll spend or for how long you can be in treatment. It’s best to talk to one of our Case Managers who can help set up an evaluation for you to determine eligibility. Our Case Managers can help place you in a program that considers all of your needs – your addiction history, insurance options, financial situation, work/school commitments, co-occurring disorders, etc. If you’re under 26 years old, you might be covered under your parents’ private insurance. This should always be your first step.
